What We Shipped in January (And Why It Matters)

September 24, 2026·by Lumo

We've been quiet on the blog for a minute. Not because we weren't building—quite the opposite. January was one of those months where the team just put our heads down and shipped. So here's the honest rundown of what's new on Lumo, why we built it, and what's next.

10% Commission. That's It.

We cut our commission to 10% across the board. No tiered pricing, no "plus" plans, no gotchas. Whether you're delivering tacos, selling your couch, or running errands for cash, you keep 90% of what you earn.

Why? Because 20-30% commissions are honestly insane. They made sense when these platforms were losing money and subsidizing rides. But now? They're just squeezing the people doing the actual work. We think 10% is fair, sustainable, and lets you actually make money on the platform.

Escrow That Actually Works

Payment drama is the worst part of peer-to-peer transactions. So we built escrow into everything. Buyer pays upfront, funds hold until the job's done, then auto-release after 24 hours (unless there's a dispute). No chasing payments. No "Venmo me later." No wondering if the seller will actually ship.

And yes, you get your money fast—Stripe handles payouts straight to your bank, usually within 1-2 business days. We're not sitting on your cash for a week "just because."

Same-Day Delivery from Anywhere

This one's fun. You can now request same-day delivery from literally any retailer, restaurant, or individual in your city. Not just the big chains. Not just "partner merchants." Anywhere.

Want someone to pick up that specialty spice from the Indian grocer across town? Done. Need your prescription and a burrito in one trip? Easy. It's the gig economy, but actually flexible.

Real Estate + Autos Are Live

We added two new marketplaces this month: real estate listings and auto sales. Both with the same escrow protection, same 10% commission, same no-BS approach.

List your car, your apartment, your rental property. Connect directly with buyers and renters. No MLS fees, no dealer markups, no middlemen taking a cut for doing nothing. Just a clean marketplace that works.

AI Ad Studio (Because Marketing Shouldn't Be Hard)

Here's the thing: most people on Lumo aren't professional marketers. You're a driver, a seller, a landlord, a side-hustler. You shouldn't need a design degree to promote your listing.

So we built an AI-powered ad studio. Upload a photo, tell it what you're selling, and it generates scroll-stopping ads in seconds. Use them on Instagram, Facebook, wherever. It's honestly kind of magic, and it's free for everyone on the platform.

What's Next

We're not done. Not even close. Next month we're rolling out instant booking for services, better search filters, and some reputation tools that actually make sense (no, we're not just copying star ratings and calling it a day).

The goal has always been simple: build a local-services platform that's fair, fast, and doesn't nickel-and-dime the people who make it work. We're getting there.

Try It Out

If you're earning (or spending) on gig platforms, marketplaces, or delivery apps, give Lumo a shot. List something. Request something. See if 10% commission and 24-hour payouts feel as good as we think they do.

We're building this thing in public, and we're listening. Let us know what's working and what's not.

Check out what's new on Lumo — whether you're buying, selling, or just trying to make rent this month, we'd love to have you.
