What We Shipped in March (And Why It Matters)

Most company updates read like press releases. This isn't that.

We've been heads-down for the last few weeks, and I wanted to share what we actually built—and more importantly, why we built it. Because if you're using Lumo to earn, buy, or sell, these changes should make your life measurably easier.

We dropped our commission to 10%

Flat. No hidden fees, no "service charges," no surprise deductions. Whether you're running deliveries, listing your car, or offering handyman services, you keep 90% of what you earn.

Why? Because 20-30% commissions are why gig platforms feel extractive. We're not trying to squeeze every dollar out of transactions—we're trying to build something people actually want to use.

Escrow that doesn't hold your money hostage

Payments now go into escrow automatically, and funds release 24 hours after delivery or service completion. No waiting a week. No contacting support to get your own money.

If there's a dispute, either party can flag it before the 24-hour window closes. Otherwise, the cash hits your account. Simple.

This protects buyers without punishing sellers. It's how escrow should have worked from the beginning.

Same-day delivery from literally anywhere

You can now request same-day delivery from any retailer, restaurant, or individual in your area. Not just our partners. Anywhere.

Need organic groceries from that co-op across town? Someone will grab it. Want lunch from a spot that doesn't do delivery? Done. Buying something on Facebook Marketplace and don't want to drive an hour? We'll handle it.

We're not trying to be another food-delivery app. We're trying to be the logistics layer for your entire local economy.

Bank payouts through Stripe

Your earnings now go straight to your bank account via Stripe. No proprietary wallet, no minimum withdrawal, no weird third-party payment processor you've never heard of.

You do the work, you get paid, money shows up in your actual bank account. Groundbreaking, I know.

Real estate and autos marketplaces

We added dedicated sections for cars and housing. List your apartment, find a roommate, sell your truck, browse used vehicles—all with the same 10% commission structure and escrow protection.

Yes, there are other platforms for this. But they're either bloated with ads, charging ridiculous fees, or filled with scams. We think local marketplaces should feel more like neighbours helping neighbours, less like navigating a minefield.

AI-powered ad studio

This one's for anyone listing a service, item, or property. Our new ad studio uses AI to help you write better descriptions, suggest pricing based on local comps, and even generate images when you don't have great photos.

Not because we love buzzwords, but because "AI" is finally useful for something practical: making it faster to post a listing that actually converts.

What's next

We're not done. We're working on instant payouts (think minutes, not hours), verified provider badges, and a referral program that actually rewards you fairly.

But we'd rather ship things that work than promise things that don't exist yet.

If you've been using Lumo, thank you. If you haven't, maybe now's the time to see what we're building.

Because local services shouldn't feel like a gamble. They should just work.
