What We Shipped This Month (And Why It Matters)

We've been heads-down building for the past few weeks, and I wanted to give you a quick look at what's new on Lumo. No fluff—just the stuff we shipped and why we think it matters.

We Cut Our Commission to 10%

Let's start with the big one. Our platform fee is now 10% across the board. That's it. No hidden charges, no surprise "service fees" at checkout, no different rates for different categories.

Why? Because we kept hearing the same thing: other platforms take too much. When you're a freelancer trying to make rent or a small business running on tight margins, every percentage point counts. We're not trying to squeeze every dollar out of transactions—we're trying to build something sustainable that actually works for the people using it.

Escrow That Actually Protects Everyone

We rolled out escrow with 24-hour auto-release for all transactions. Here's how it works: when someone pays you, we hold the funds until the job is done. Once marked complete, the money releases automatically after 24 hours (unless there's a dispute).

This protects buyers from getting scammed and protects sellers from payments getting held indefinitely. It's a small thing that makes a huge difference when you're coordinating deliveries, gigs, or marketplace deals with strangers on the internet.

Same-Day Delivery from Anyone

This one's exciting. You can now request same-day delivery from any retailer, restaurant, or individual in your area. Need groceries from that local market? Someone to pick up your dry cleaning? A last-minute birthday cake from across town? It's all in the app now.

We're not trying to compete with the big delivery apps—we're trying to make local commerce more flexible. Sometimes you just need someone to grab something and bring it to you. Now that's possible.

Faster Payouts via Stripe

Money you earn on Lumo now goes straight to your bank account via Stripe. No waiting weeks for a check. No minimum thresholds. Just fast, reliable payouts so you can actually access the money you've earned.

We know cash flow is everything when you're working gig-to-gig or running a side hustle. This should help.

Real Estate + Autos Marketplaces

We added dedicated sections for real estate and autos. List your apartment, find a roommate, sell your car, browse local listings—all with the same escrow protection and low fees as everything else on Lumo.

These are big-ticket categories, and we wanted to give them the attention they deserve. It's early days, but the listings are growing fast.

AI-Powered Ad Studio

Okay, this one's a little experimental, but we're proud of it. Our AI ad studio helps you create better listings in seconds. Upload a photo, describe what you're offering, and the AI suggests copy, highlights key features, and even recommends pricing based on local market data.

It's not perfect, but it's genuinely useful—especially if writing isn't your thing or you're just trying to get a listing up quickly.

What's Next

We're not done. There's a long list of things we're working on: better search, in-app messaging improvements, more local discovery features, and a handful of other ideas we're still testing.
