What's New at Lumo: February 2024 Roundup

We've been heads-down building for the past few weeks, and I wanted to share what's actually live on Lumo right now. No roadmap promises or vaporware—just features you can use today.

We dropped our commission to 10%

This one's straightforward. We were at 15%, now we're at 10%. Whether you're delivering groceries, listing your car, or running gigs, you keep more of what you earn. We're not trying to squeeze every dollar out of transactions—we'd rather grow by making Lumo the obvious choice for service providers.

The math is simple: more people using the platform at a fair rate beats fewer people at a greedy one.

Escrow that actually works

Money stuff is stressful. We get it. So we built escrow into every transaction with a 24-hour auto-release. Here's how it works: buyer pays upfront, funds sit in escrow while the service happens, then auto-release 24 hours after delivery unless there's a dispute.

No more "will I actually get paid?" anxiety. No more chasing people down. You do the work, you get paid. If something goes sideways, either party can flag it and we step in. But 98% of the time, it just... works.

Payouts hit your bank account via Stripe within a couple of days. Clean, simple, secure.

Same-day delivery from literally anywhere

This is the feature I'm personally most excited about. You can now request same-day delivery from any retailer, restaurant, or individual in your area. Not just our partners—anywhere.

Need a specific item from that boutique across town? Want dinner from a spot that doesn't do their own delivery? Someone on Lumo will grab it and bring it to you, usually within a couple of hours. We're seeing everything from IKEA runs to pharmacy pickups to "I forgot my charger at home" emergencies.

It's peer-to-peer logistics, and it's working better than we expected.

Real estate and autos marketplaces are live

We started as a gig-and-delivery platform, but people kept asking if they could list bigger stuff. So we said yes.

The real estate marketplace lets you list rentals, sales, and sublets with the same escrow protection and low fees. The autos marketplace covers everything from daily car rentals to vehicle sales. Both are brand new, so we're watching closely and iterating based on what people actually need.

Early feedback has been good. Turns out people like platforms that don't nickel-and-dime them.

AI-powered ad studio (beta)

If you're selling a service or product on Lumo, you can now generate ads in about 30 seconds. Upload a photo, describe what you're offering, and our AI builds ad creative and copy for you. It's not perfect, but it's shockingly useful—especially if writing ad copy makes you want to crawl into a hole.

We're calling this beta because we're still tweaking it, but it's live and free to use for all sellers.

What's next

We're not done. We're working on better search, tighter fraud prevention, and a handful of features I'm not ready to talk about yet because I've learned not to promise things before they're real.
